Golfing

There is a diverse range of 18-hole links and parkland courses in the West of Ireland. Connemara, Carne and Westport stand high on a list of Ireland's championship courses. There are more than 20 courses to choose from which can be played all year round. Download a map of courses in the West.

Fishing

The North West region is one of Europe's top angling destinations and is considered by many as a salmon fishing paradise. The Moy river produces about 6,000 salmon to the rod and Lough Conn and Arrow have established reputations of quality wild brown trout. The Ballina Salmon Festival is a premier family-orientated festival held in July of each year.

Croagh Patrick

Croagh Patrick is the most prominent mountain overlooking Clew Bay on the Atlantic Coast outside Westport, Co. Mayo. Saint Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, made County Mayo his home for many years around 400AD. Spending 40 days and nights on the imposing Croagh Patrick, he banished snakes, dragons and demonic forces from his vantage point.

Outdoor Adventure

From hill walking to windsurfing, rock climbing to boogie boarding, there are plenty of outdoor activities to suit young and old alike. Westport is known as a Heritage town and has received many tidy town awards. It is located on a quay and has an abundance of hotels, pubs, restaurants and quaint shops. It is a popular tourist area for both visitors and natives alike.
